(More customer reviews)I used these to replace the par38 90w halogens I had been using in recessed can lights in my house.
They produce close to same quality of light as the halogens. The boxes they arrive in say they replace a 100w bulb and that is pretty close - i.e. they appear to be a bit brighter than the 90w halogen. The light is bit more white than a halogen but close enough that you can't really notice the difference.
The product description says they are instant on. This is not actually true. They take about a 1/2 second to come on after you flip the switch. They come on at about 50% of their total output and it takes them about a minute to fully warm up and get to full capacity.
They are about a 1/2 inch longer than a par38 halogen, 5" vs. 5 1/2", but they fit fine in the cans.
The product description says 10,000 hours of life, but on the box it says they are spec'ed to last 8,000 hours. Clearly I have not had them long enough to say if this is true or not.
Given all the above (why I gave them 4 instead 5 stars), especially the non-instant on, means they are not a perfect replacement for the halogens, but given I replaced 40 90w halogens with these, effectively saving me over 2600 watts, I am willing to live with the slight differences to reap the energy savings.
